Making good on a previously announced deal between the NFL and US telco Verizon, Yahoo Sports will start streaming NFL play-off games this weekend and continue up through Super Bowl LII.

nfl 10 jan 2018“Consumers in the US will be able to watch all four play-off games with one click on the Yahoo sports app,” said Tim Armstrong, chief at Oath, Verizon’s digital division. “The movement in the world is for consumers to go mobile.”

The first game available to stream on mobile via the Yahoo Sports app will be the Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday.

Next season, Yahoo will stream more games, including pre-season, Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, local market games and play-off matches. Verizon plans to make them available across a number of digital and media platforms, including Yahoo, Yahoo Sports, AOL, the g90 streaming app and the NFL mobile app.

The five-year deal is reported to be worth $2 billion, which roughly doubles the $1 billion Verizon paid for four years of exclusive mobile streaming rights.
