Nearly a quarter of Spain’s daily TV viewing is through pay-TV platforms, revealed the latest report from Barlovento Comunicación.

television 15 june 20172017 has been a record year in many ways for the Spanish pay-TV sector. In addition to exceeding the six million subscriber barrier and experiencing booming revenues, pay-TV platforms have set new audience records.

According the report, 22.3% of viewing time was spent on pay-TV platforms, regardless of the channel, increasing from 20.4% in 2016.

This increase is mainly due to growing IPTV penetration, said the report, as it has simplified the way Spaniards access video content at home, converging various entertainment sources in a single platform.

IPTV services are subscribed to by 3.48 million households, over half of total pay-TV subscriptions, according to the latest figures published by the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia.

The total audience of pay-TV exclusive networks reached an average 7.8% share, 0.8 points more than in 2016. The most watched channels of 2017 were beIN LaLiga, FOX, TNT, AXN and Canal Hollywood.
