Led by its original productions, Movistar+’s catalogue of premieres for the beginning of 2018 has been revealed.

la peste movistar 02 january 2018The telco’s in-house series La Peste and Mira lo Que has Hecho will premiere in January and February, respectively. Movistar+ will also air Arde Madrid, Félix, Gigantes, Matar al Padre, Virtual Hero and the second season of Velvet Colección, although no release date has been announced.

Also, through a variety of distribution agreements with Showtime and Amazon, among others, Telefónica’s pay-TV platform will premiere new seasons of Mozart in the Jungle, Better Call Saul, Orange is the New Black and The Affair.

As for movies, Movistar+ will begin 2018 by premiering the latest film in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga. Other blockbusters to be broadcast by the pay-TV provider are Alien: Covenant and Baywatch, with titles including My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea and Saving Mr Wu being released in Spain for the first time.

Regarding documentaries, Movistar+ has secured the premieres of U2: The Abbey Road Concert, produced by BBC, Slim Aarons: The High Life, Sam Smith Live in London, Stranger in Paradise and Billy Elliot, the musical, among others.

By offering exclusive programming, Movistar+ aims to strengthen its position after almost two years of being the only operator to have dropped subscribers in a growing market.
