Premium video-on-demand service Viu is launching a range Korean content for its viewers in India, following the shows’ success in other Asian markets.

Viu Korean content 20 Dec 2017Over 30 hit Korean TV shows are now available on the VOD service, which is owned by Hong Kong communications company PCCW and operated by Vuclip. Another 20 shows will launch by March 2018.

Korean content available includes Come Back Alive, Heirs, My Love From Another Star, Descendants of the Sun, Sweet Stranger and M, Doctors, and Poet Warrior Youth.

“We have witnessed a very healthy uptake by young viewers, aged 18 to 24 years, who are watching Korean TV shows with English subtitles. The youth of India today are looking for world-class TV shows. Korean TV shows deliver on all aspects from story to production, which makes it such a success. The trend of watching Korean content is picking up rapidly across the country,” said Vishal Maheshwari, country head - Viu India.

Around 4,000 hours of Korean drama and variety shows from producers SBS, KBS, MBC and CJ E&M are now available to stream on Viu across all its markets: Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The over-the-top (OTT) platform, which offers both free advertising-supported content as well a premium subscription service, can be accessed online or by downloading the Viu app for Android or iOS mobile devices.
