Ramping up its content acquisition strategy for its soon to launch Epic Drama channel, Viasat World has secured 250 hours of what it calls world-class period drama from ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE).

Described as a landmark content agreement, Viasat World’s biggest to date with ITVS GE, the deal will see the independent broadcaster’s new drama-based channel and catch-up/subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) propositions become the new home for titles including Harlots, Mr Selfridge and Poldark, Beowolf – Return To The Shieldlands, Endeavour, Lightfields, Murdoch Mysteries, and The Line (Un Village Français).

ITVS GE is already established as a key content distribution partner for Viasat World, supplying many top rating shows across its factual channel portfolio, and the new deal builds on this relationship as the company launches its brand new drama offering.

“ITVS GE is a natural partner to us at Viasat World. Home to an amazing catalogue of award-winning content and priding itself on truly understanding the audience, the synergies between our two companies are clear to see,” remarked Karin Heijink, VP content and products at Viasat World. “We are thrilled to bolster our content pipeline for Epic Drama with this deal which, true to our ambition for the brand, will see the channel and SVOD proposition become the home of some of the very best period drama series ever made. In particular, I’m very excited to have Harlots on our channel. A break-out hit series with an all-female writing and directing team behind it, it features witty and smart dialogues which we look forward to translating to our audiences in CEE.”

Jennifer Ebell, SVP, EMEA Sales at ITVS GE, added: “We are delighted to be broadening our relationship with Viasat World and ensuring that viewers in these growing markets will be able to enjoy some of the most popular dramas from our diverse catalogue.”
