Turner is to start producing and broadcasting local shows in Argentina to feed CNN en Español’s line-up across the Americas.

Through CNN’s Argentinean operation, the media company intends to deliver more accurate information about an important market within the region as well as strengthen the local focus of the channel’s programming.

CNN en Español has selected three seasoned journalists - Marcelo Longobardi, Jonatan Viale and Jesica Bossi - to direct the new content.

The first show to debut on 16 December will be Bossi’s Mercado Sur, in which the journalist analyses the financial and industrial trends affecting Argentina and Latin America.

En Diálogo con Marcelo Longobardi will debut in February. Targeting Sunday’s prime time, Longobardi will interview figures from the Latin American scene, including politicians, artists and athletes. The show will kick off with an exclusive interview with Argentina’s president, Mauricio Macri, on 10 December.

Viale will also premiere his daily show, Perspectivas Cono Sur, in February 2018. Following a traditional news format, Viale will go through the regional daily news with analysis from correspondents and collaborators based in Chile, Uruguay and Argentina. The format will be introduced with a special show on 27 December analysing highlights from 2017.

“In this way, CNN en Español will strengthen its position across 42 million homes in Latin America and 7.5 million in the US,” said Turner.
