PLDT is expanding the presence of its pay-TV platform Cignal TV in hotels and other commercial establishments through an IPTV partnership in the Philippines.

Other target areas for expansion include restaurants, bars, retail stores, schools and public terminals, the Philippines’ largest telcommunications operator said.

“Particularly for the hotels, resorts, and the hospital segments (HRH), offering Cignal TV channels is just the starting point as we envision to put in other relevant and transformative solutions for key business ecosystems,” said Jovy Hernandez, PLDT senior vice president and head of PLDT and Smart Enterprise Groups.

Jane Basas, chief executive officer and president of Cignal TV, said the partnership was “a logical next step in bringing together unparalleled access and quality content to as many Filipinos as possible”.

Cignal TV is already offered as part of PLDT Home’s triple play offer of voice, broadband and IPTV services.

Operated by PLDT’s media arm MediaQuest Holdings, Cignal TV has offered a direct-to-home (DTH) satellite service across the Philippines since 2009, and also provides on-demand and online streaming services.

“This collaboration with Cignal TV truly enhances our significance as a partner for businesses not just to deliver fixed and wireless services, but to become a more valuable technology solutions provider. With this added service, we are able to deliver premium entertainment and other popular shows and programmes in HD over fibre,” said PLDT chief revenue officer and executive vice president Eric Alberto.
