Building on its leading position in the Spanish content market, Atresmedia has launched Atresmedia Studios, a production unit which will focus on TV fiction.

atresmedia sede 28 june 2017The move follows a growing worldwide demand for Spanish content, particularly in Latin America, where the media group recently increased its distribution channels and signed agreements with major players including Netflix and DirecTV.

Atresmedia says it has become the leading international distributor of Spanish content, mostly thanks to its penetration into the European and American markets.

“Launching Atresmedia Studios is a natural step forward in the company’s content strategy, which is a key business for us, independently of the distribution channel,” said Silvio González, CEO, Atresmedia. “This strategy has driven Atresmedia to become a large content production factory for every screen, and will enable the company to profit from its own experience in content production.”

Following the global trends in content consumption, Atresmedia Studios will focus on series production as well as on new operators and distribution windows, such as over-the-top (OTT) players.

Ignacio Corrales, who previously worked for RTVE and Grupo Lavinia, has joined Atresmedia as director of the new unit. Sonia Martínez, currently Atresmedia’s director of fiction, will be in charge of editing and Nacho Manubens will head the content department.
