With the FIFA World Cup groups just drawn, Mediaset has announced an agreement to air the 64 games through its free-to-air (FTA) channels in Spain.

la roja mediaset 04 december 2017Through the deal, the media giant will strengthen its long-term relationship with the international football competitions, having already covered the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the 2012 and 2016 Eurocups.

The company has not yet unveiled its final broadcast strategy, but intends to show all 64 games of Russia 2018 on TV.

“Once again securing one of the most coveted content worldwide is the best news we could give to our audience,” said Manuel Villanueva, general manager of content, Mediaset España. “It’s a great opportunity to create a unique multi-platform event.”

With the World up in South Africa 2010, and La Roja’s victory, the company averaged 6.33 million viewers and 44.6%, while during Brazil 2014, despite the Spanish team’s early elimination, it registered 5.57 million viewers and a 39.7% average share.
