The Argentinean video-on-demand (VOD) platform Play will make part of its catalogue accessible worldwide.

cine ar play 13 september 2017Building on local success, as it nears 700,000 registered users in Argentina, and aiming to gain further momentum in Latin America, Play will launch a catalogue of on-demand films that will be available via streaming in all countries.

Initially, with 150 titles, the movie catalogue for international viewers will be smaller than its local offering.

Paying special attention to Latin American audiences and Argentineans living abroad, the launch of an international catalogue has been an important goal for the VOD platform, which is managed by the public telco Arsat and the Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA). Play has also launched an app for LG smart TVs, shortly after releasing a similar platform for Samsung connected sets. In addition, Arsat and INCAA said to be working on taking the service’s transactional VOD arm, Cine.Ar Estreno, to Argentina’s main pay-TV providers, Cablevisión, Claro and Telefónica.

“We are celebrating the platform’s growth in Argentina; user figures are increasing month by month, along with growing availability so Argentineans can watch local content anywhere, at any time,” said Rodrigo de Loredo, president, Arsat.

By increasing its reach, the VOD service aims to reach one million registered users during the first quarter of 2018.
