The US International Trade Commission has ruled in favour of TiVo Corp, agreeing that Comcast Corp violated two of its patents for certain Xfinity X1 set-top boxes.

xfinity 23 nov 2017Comcast will be prohibited from importing and selling the infringing gear. The import ban doesn’t apply to legacy Xfinity boxes.

Comcast has vowed to appeal the trade commission’s decision.

“Today’s Commission Opinion reinforces the need for Comcast to take the necessary licences to our IP,” TiVo said.

JPMorgan moved to recommend TiVo shares after the federal patent ruling. “We view this ruling as a significant positive for TiVo and a major step in what we expect to be a process of the two companies working toward final resolution,” the firm's analyst wrote in a note to clients.
