Expanding a long-term relationship to securely distribute premium content across any device, leading Australian pay-TV provider Foxtel has selected content protection firm Irdeto to secure set-top boxes (STBs) and its Foxtel Now streaming service.

FoxtelNowLaunch PeterTonagh 7 June 2017Launched on 7 June, Foxtel Now offers bundles with no set-up costs or long contracts, and provides HD streaming on PCs and Macs via the Google Chrome browser, Telstra TV and Chromecast. It also offers a new user interface plus the ability to stream content to TV screens via Google Chromecast. There are five entry-level packs including Drama and Pop packs, with content such as HBO’s Game of Thrones, priced at A$15 per month each or $25 for both. Lifestyle, Docos and Kids packs are available at $10 per month each.

The company will now use Irdeto Cloaked CA to securely deliver content through Foxtel’s latest fleet of STBs as well as Foxtel Now. The software solution is designed to enable Foxtel to deliver an improved customer experience through faster channel change times, increased security, reduced logistical costs and reduced costs of satellite bandwidth. In addition, Irdeto will secures the distribution of content across devices supported by Foxtel’s streaming service, and also includes a content distribution technology strategy.
