GatesAir has appointed Alberto Salazar as director of sales for the Central and Latin American (CALA) region.

A broadcast industry veteran, who has held key sales roles with Harmonic and Thomson Video Networks, Salazar will drive regional strategies and initiatives across a broad territory, from Mexico to Argentina, and throughout the Caribbean islands. He reports directly to Joe Mack, vice president of sales, Americas.

Salazar looks forward to strengthening relationships with in-country partners and broadcasters at a time when many countries are transitioning to digital TV, and/or strengthening FM radio and TV infrastructure. He views the CALA region as rich with opportunities and cites Mexico as an interesting example, noting the large number of new Government-issued TV and radio station licences nationwide.

“My mission is to maximise the efforts of our sales team and strategic channel partners and distributors, and leverage GatesAir’s longevity and legacy as the industry’s most reliable supplier of turnkey over-the-air solutions,” said Salazar. “Ultimately, our goal is to help our customers build and upgrade TV and radio infrastructure with the highest operational efficiency and performance, and the lowest total cost of ownership. With our extensive product portfolio that’s second to none, GatesAir is in a very competitive position to support all of the major DTV and digital radio standards in use across the CALA region.”

Prior to joining GatesAir, Salazar served as regional sales director for Thomson Video Networks. In this role, he met and exceeded all sales goals for products ranging from traditional solutions to virtual cloud-based solutions for multiscreen and direct-to-home (DTH) applications. He also was director of sales for Latin America and Caribbean for ATEME, establishing its presence in the Americas. In addition, Salazar led the go-to-market activities for Harmonic, as director of sales for Latin America and the Caribbean, delivering year-on-year growth while consistently achieving one of the highest revenues per salesperson in the company.

“The CALA region is among the most diverse worldwide when it comes to digital TV and radio standards adoption. With so many countries in different stages of transition, the time is right to welcome an innovative and experienced sales leader with proven results,” said Bruce Swail, CEO, GatesAir. “We welcome Alberto to the team and look forward to his contribution in his new role.”
