A new Australian series called The Slot is set to bring the best of online comedy to the small screen on The Comedy Channel.

The Slot Foxtel 13 Nov 2017From the makers of comedies We Can Be Heroes, John Safran’s Race Relations, Open Slather and Summer Heights High, The Slot will showcase original and classic viral sketches from both established and emerging online creators.

The stars of the new series, who between them have amassed billions of online views, include the Bondi Hipsters, the Superwog, Sketchshe, Aunty Donna, Racka Racka, Troy Kinne, Natalie Tran and Skit box.

“As someone who had their life turned upside down by the ability to post content online and find an audience, it’s super exciting to see similar avenues opening up in the world of TV,” said host Christiaan Van Vuuren from Bondi Hipsters.

“The Slot is an awesome step forward in terms of legitimising the careers of creators, and providing an avenue for our community to reach an audience they otherwise wouldn’t be able to.”

Co-host Adele Vuko (Skit box) added: “A lot of the creators on this show have millions of fans around the world and people who queue up to see them live. Yet many of us make little to no money and can barely make rent. This show is a great opportunity for us because now we can eat something better than Maggi noodles which are delicious, but kind of get boring after the 400th night.”

A Foxtel original 10x30 minute series is produced by Princess Pictures and will premiere at 8.30pm on Thursday 14 December on The Comedy Channel and then be repeated on FOX8 on Saturday nights.
