Along with increasing online video and over-the-top (OTT) consumption, the penetration of smart TVs has tripled in Peru over the last two years.

Two years ago, connected TVs were available in 13.3% of homes, growing to 22.9% in 2015 and 36.9% in 2016.
Though Osiptel hasn’t surveyed Peruvians’ OTT habits, the increasing availability of smart TVs could point to a growing consumption of online content over-the-top. This is also supported by the 40+ different streaming platforms delivering video-on-demand (VOD) and linear content in Peru, as well as Roku’s new operation in the Andean country.
However, such growth is also being capitalised by pirate online platforms, as recently revealed by the Alianza contra la piratería.
In addition to figures about devices, the survey has also revealed that pay-TV penetration reached 48% by the end of 2016, growing from 38.6% in 2016. Following such digits, there are 4.1 million pay-TV households in Peru, nearly one million more than a year ago.
