Telkom Indonesia has signed a deal to offer its mobile subscribers access to free over-the-top (OTT) video content and live TV from digital media start-up OONA.

Planned for launch in December, Indonesia will be the first market for the nascent advertising video-on-demand (AVOD) service, offered as a mobile app and targeted at emerging nations.

Speaking at the partnership ceremony in Jakarta, Joddy Hernady, CEO of Metranet, Telkom Indonesia, expressed delight at the collaboration, while Christophe Hochart, CEO and founder of OONA, said that he hoped it would be a lifelong partnership.

OONA is the latest venture from Hochart, who also founded and is group CEO of technology start-ups BOOSST.com, ScanAd.tv and Chillmob.com.

OONA plans to offer consumers data free instant access to “the best of television, VOD entertainment, educational video content, interesting offers, promotions, and other mobile brand information that will be of personal benefit to them”. It also boasts the service will prove “the future of FTA [free-to-air] on mobiles” by delivering precise advertising and increased advertising revenue for broadcasters.
