With Argentinean football star Messi back in the groove, FC Barcelona’s first Champions League game scored another hit during Spain’s free-to-air (FTA) prime time.

Thanks to the match, the Atresmedia channel led prime time ratings with an average 21.3% share and was the most watched FTA network of the day (12 September).

Reminiscent of last year’s quarter-finals between the same two teams, a game that also delivered huge ratings for Antena 3, the Champions League match peaked to 5.4 million viewers and a 30.2% share during its golden minute.

The live broadcast reached 35.1% of young adults, 31% of adults 25-34 and 32% of adults 45-54.

Atresmedia has been achieving high ratings with its Champions League programming in recent seasons. However, the 2017/2018 will be the last championship to be aired FTA, as UEFA has selected beIN Sports as the sole home for the competition in Spain for the next three seasons.
