Extending its roots in content protection and aiming to maximise content value and optimise experiences, Nagra has launched OpenTV Signature Edition, a turnkey, cloud-based and multi-tenant solution for pay-TV operators.

nagraopensig 13sep2017The solution is designed for operators to use the cloud and analytics to ‘dramatically’ improve deployment, operational and consumer experiences while maximising content value and service monetisation. For consumers, it is said to enable new customer journeys, blending traditional and modern paths to content. It offers the latest in UI development and features, resulting, says Nagra, in consumers being able to discover new content they may not have thought of otherwise thanks to a new take on recommendations.

“OpenTV Signature Edition hails a new era in the delivery, deployment and operation of pay-TV services and is designed to be at the forefront of customer satisfaction in both the services offered and the user experience it delivers,” explained Holger Ippach, SVP middleware & multiscreen for NAGRA. “It is the pay-TV solution for the new cloud economy, providing operators with the foundation to deliver a feature-rich, next-generation service while allowing them to maximise their content investment through new monetisation capabilities.”

The OpenTV Signature Edition uses all the components of the existing Nagra OpenTV Suite — such as the OS, platform, experience and player — along with pre-integrated set-top box (STB) hardware and a third-party and content network to help service providers deliver feature-rich, next generation over-the-top (OTT) and subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services faster and more efficiently than ever before. Other benefits are said to include faster deployment, greater management and richness of service; traditional and ‘innovative’ recommendation mechanisms; new pay-TV monetisation opportunities through catalogue and service optimisation.

A 4K-ready STB by SmarDTV completes the ecosystem. It gives the pay-TV operator a fully managed device supporting SVOD apps, such as Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime, with guaranteed quality of service and quality of experience.
