The FIFA World Cup qualifiers have again delivered record numbers for Telemundo and Universo in the US, thanks to the crucial Costa Rica vs Mexico game.
The match, broadcast on Telemundo and Universo, delivered 2.7 million total viewers and 1.6 million adults aged 18-49, according to Nielsen. The match ranked as the most-watched sports event across broadcast and cable networks, out-delivering the US Open Tennis on ESPN and World Cup qualifiers on beIN Sports that aired in the same time slot.
Locally, the game ranked as the most watched show in the time period in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas, Chicago and San Francisco among adults aged 18-49, regardless of language.
Across the network’s digital properties, TelemundoDeportes.com and the Deportes En Vivo App, the game generated over 43,000 livestreams. On social media, Telemundo Deportes was the #1 sports event in terms of social engagement among all Hispanic and broadcast networks, on 5 September.
Telemundo Deportes’ qualifiers coverage will return to Telemundo and Universo in October for the defining last fixture of the final round. The networks will present exclusive Spanish-language broadcast of Costa Rica vs Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago vs USA, Panama vs Costa Rica and Honduras vs Mexico.
