Telefónica’s over-the-top, mobile service, Movistar Play, has registered peaking viewership in Peru during the World Cup qualifiers.

movistar play futbol 08 september 20171According to the telco, over 200,000 users watched the Ecuador vs Peru game through the OTT platform, which has been recently unbundled from pay-TV subscriptions and is delivered as a complement to Internet and mobile packages.

In fact, over 60% of the 200,000 viewers followed the game live on their smartphones, while one out of three used their computers.

Movistar TV holds broadcasting rights in Peru for the Russia 2018 qualifiers. The games are delivered through the OTT platform and the pay-TV channels Movistar Deportes and Gol Peru.
“Movistar Play is the result of mobile and fixed convergence, and it’s available for all the users that have a triple- and double-play package or a single mobile subscription,” stated the Spanish telco.

The OTT service is available through a responsive site, the iOS and Android apps, Samsung and LG smart TVs, Telefónica’s hybrid set-top box and a beta platform for Chromecast.
