VH1’s new Miami-based series, Baller Wives, dominated last Monday night in the US, with 2.3 million viewers tuning in for the premiere and encore viewing.
With a 1.14 rating for viewers aged 18 to 49, the programme was the No 1 non-sports cable programme in its time slot, and the third most social show of the night.
The VH1 show follows American football players and their wives as they navigate love, family, business and ‘balling’ in a world where relationships are complicated and the competition between neighbours is thick. The stars are controversial, and include Michael Vick (pictured, the Pittsburg Steelers quarterback who was convicted on animal cruelty charges when his brutal dog-fighting ring was exposed), and ex-NFL wide receiver Chris Chambers (who married his 27-year-old mistress, who was charged with 11 misdemeanour counts for stalking and harassing the wide receiver’s family). Other stars include Brent Grimes, Asante Samuel, Julius Jones and Channing Crowder.
