Despite its recent alliance with Tigo, Sony’s subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform Crackle is to enter the Colombian market through an agreement with ETB.

etb bogota 1 may 2017As part of the ETB’s diversification strategy (the telco was also the first LATAM player to partner with HBO’s independent OTT platform), Crackle will be available to ETB subscribers in Bogotá immediately.

As has happened with previous agreements with Sony, there will be an additional charge for Crackle on top of the ETB subscription. The SVOD service will enable two simultaneous streams per subscription and HD content for those with connections of over 3Mbps.

“This agreement enables us to bring Crackle to Colombia for the first time and deliver a new entertainment option to ETB subscribers,” said Nathascha Rengifo, VP and GM, Sony Pictures Television Networks in the Other Latin America region.

“Crackle will mean new entertainment possibilities, adapted to the changing video consumption habits which are driving ETB to constantly enlarge its content offering,” added Christian Grosjean, VP, strategy and marketing, ETB.

ETB is a public company whose largest stakeholder is Bogota’s city council. The telco was due to be privatised this year, which was temporarily suspended by Bogota’s Juzgado Cuarto Administrativo.
