As Real Madrid beat Mourinho’s Man United in the first official international competition of the season, Spain’s Antena 3 has claimed record viewership.

real madrid supercopa 10 august 2017Despite Ronaldo not playing until the last minutes, Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup victory was led by Gareth Bale and Isco in a game that was watched by an average of 4.54 million viewers on the Spanish free-to-air network.

With a 38.6% share, the game was the most-watched Super Cup competition in recent years, Atresmedia claims. The football match registered a golden minute of 5.95 million viewers and a 43.3% share.

As for demographics, the Super Cup was watched by 46% of youngsters and 42.8% of adults 45-54. This compared with Telecinco registering a 9.5% share and RTVE a 9.6%.

The Antena 3 results have shown that this football season has begun as last season ended, topping Spanish viewing figures.
