Colombia’s public broadcaster the Sistema de Medios Públicos RTVC is to be headed by industry executive José Jorge Dangond.

dangond colombia 08 august 2017According to the country’s Telecoms Minister, David Luna, Dangond’s main tasks will be overseeing the DTT switchover across the country and continuing the project of preserving Colombia’s heritage through video technologies.

“We’re going to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of ICT to bring digital TV to every home in the country,” said Dangond.

With previous experience in Colombia’s regional TV, Dangond funded the free-to-air (FTA) channel Telecaribe and also held the role of executive director at Inravision, the old name of the public broadcaster, between 1994-1995.

Recently, he focused on his political career, and was Colombia’s consul in the Venezuelan cities of Maracaibo, Valencia and Caracas.

“Dangond’s career and knowledge about television and media management is strong. As manager, he always focused on delivering the best programming about Colombia’s traditions,” stated the country’s national TV association ANTV announcing the appointment.
