Independent distributor all3media has inked its first international agreements for Ackley Bridge.

ackley bridge 01 august 2017The six-part series, produced by The Forge for the UK’s Channel 4, will be released on Spain’s video-on-demand (VOD) platform Filmin and on Portugal’s public broadcaster RTP.

The agreement with Filmin and RTP follows the series’ UK debut in June, when the first episode outperformed Channel 4’s slot average by 66% and topped the channel’s ratings for the day.

Recently recommissioned for a further two seasons, Ackley Bridge is set in a school in a Yorkshire town, home to largely divided white and Asian population. Like the communities, the school systems have also become segregated. As two formerly isolated comprehensives are merged into Ackley Bridge College, the lives and cultures of each are set to collide.

“In Ackley Bridge, The Forge has successfully delivered an authentic, entertaining and contemporary view of multicultural life, combining character-driven stories with sharp wit and topical real-life issues that are relevant around the world,” said Stephen Driscoll, EVP, EMEA, all3media international. “It’s rewarding that Spain and Portugal have seen the appeal of this series, and the recent recommission of two new seasons means we’ll be able to confirm further acquisitions soon.”
