Spurred on by its competitors, Orange has launched an Ultra HD hybrid set-top box (STB) for its IPTV clients.

Along with the 4K STB launch, the telco has also introduced a catch-up feature so users can watch the last week of programming of every linear channel on demand, and released an Android TV app.

The Ultra HD box supports DTT and any ADSL or fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connection to integrate into a single STB, the IPTV, over-the-top (OTT) and free-to-air (FTA) content offerings.

Netflix and Rakuten TV’s video-on-demand (VOD) platforms will be pre-installed in the STB and the Orange TV VOD catalogue will also be available.

According to Orange, the decoder has other additional features including an advanced search engine and content discovery tool, support for Dolby Atmos systems, and multimedia server connectivity.

“By launching the 4K set-top box, the catch-up feature and the Android TV app, Orange has completed an important step forward to offer the best entertainment content to its customers, with the highest quality and across a comprehensive range of devices,” said José Antonio Guzmán, director, Orange TV.

Through the move, Orange aims to strengthen its 4K position in the wake of moves by its main competitors, especially Vodafone.
