ALTBalaji is expanding its regional portfolio with an original Bengali series, days after Reliance Industries announced it was investing heavily in digital content for the over-the-top (OTT) platform.

Dhimaner Dinkaal ALTBalaji 25 July Directed by Saugata Nandi, the new show Dhimaner Dinkaal will star Saswata Chatterjee, Sreelekha Mitra, Khoraj Mukherjee and Sudipta Banerjee.

“ALTBalaji is the No 1 repository of exclusive and original digital content in Indian languages today,” said CEO Nachiket Pantvaidya. “After launching with six Hindi and a Tamil show, we continue our commitment to Indian language shows with Dhimaner Dinkaal, our Bengali show starring Saswata Chatterjee. Dhimaner Dinkaal is the extraordinary story of an ordinary man.

“We are confident that this will be a favourite for Bengalis in and out of India,” added Pantvaidya.

Dhimaner Dinkaal is the story of an ordinary, man who lives a simple existence avoiding technology, whose life takes an unexpected turn forcing him to embrace the digital world.

The news of its launch comes just days after Reliance Industries announced it would purchase a 24.92% share in ALTBalaji’s parent company Balaji Telefilms Ltd. The INR4.1328 billion investment, for content production, including digital content, is in line with Reliance Industries’ commitment “to invest and grow in telecom digital and media businesses,” the company said in a statement.

OTT platform ALTBalaji, which was launched by the Indian studio in April 2017, has so far attracted over three million downloads and subscribers from 75 countries.

The transaction is subject to approval from Balaji Telefilms’ shareholders and regulatory compliances.
