According to the company, a regional deal has been reached with AT&T’s DirecTV, including its Brazilian unit SKY. Besides, America Movil’s NET subscribers will also have free access to HBO/MAX in the Portuguese-speaking markets.

In addition to region-wide agreements, some local deals have been inked in Colombia (Telefónica’s Movistar, Claro and Tigo-UNE), Chile (Movistar) and Peru (Movistar and Claro), among other territories.

HBO has also confirmed that its newly-deployed standalone, over-the-top (OTT) platform will deliver the first episode of Game of Thrones’ new season for free. The content will be available on-demand for non-subscribers until 15 August.

Game of Thrones is probably HBO’s most effective tool to gain awareness around the globe. Last year, the series’ audience increased by 29% in Latin America, with the final episode doubling pay-TV viewers.
