ESPN is showcasing the 23 athletes featured in ESPN The Magazine’s ninth annual BODY Issue with a TV special, which will highlight behind the scenes photo, video and interview elements.
The athletes featured include World Series champion Javier Baez; NHL teammates Brent Burns (defenseman) and Joe Thornton (centre) of the San Jose Sharks; New England Patriots wide receiver and SuperBowl champion Julian Edelman; Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott; adaptive snowboarder/mountaineer and the first veteran featured in the BODY Issue retired Marine Corps Sgt. Kirstie Ennis; Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy (free skiing), 2016 WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks and two-time NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics.
ESPN launched the BODY franchise almost a decade ago to celebrate and showcase the athletic form through images and interviews. The one-hour show is hosted by ESPN commentator Julie Foudy, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and former US Women’s National Soccer team captain, and centres around a main theme of ‘Every Body Has a Story’, where athletes share their respective personal and professional journeys.
