Star India has issued a disconnection notice to direct-to-home (DTH) TV operator Reliance Digital TV for failure to pay licence fees.

Star India logo 3 July 2017The public notice states the broadcaster’s channels will be pulled from the Reliance Digital TV platform within 21 days, according to Television Post.

The Reliance Communications-owned DTH operator reached 2% of the total active DTH subscribers in India at the end of 2016. While Star broadcasts more than 50 channels in eight Indian languages, reaching nine out of ten cable and satellite TV homes in India.

This latest action by Star follows a similar disconnection notice issued recently to the Huinduja Group-owned headend-in-the-sky (HITS) operator NXT Digital for non-payment of licence fees. Sony Pictures Network has also indicated its intention to stop its channel feed to NXT Digital and its multi-system operator sister IndusInd Media & Communications, the publication reported.
