Chile’s Consejo de la Cultura has launched OndaMedia, the newest player on the country’s video-on-demand (VOD) scene.

ondamedia chile 16 june 2017The Web-based streaming platform aims to strengthen distribution and increase the reach of Chilean productions, including films and documentaries. It also includes a live section which broadcasts culture and art events taking place across the country.

OndaMedia has been launched with 80 titles, including films such as El año del Tigre, Lo Bueno de llorar, Las Niñas Quispe and El Club, and the catalogue will be gradually expanded.

The VOD service is free, although every account will only be allowed to stream a maximum of eight films per month in order to control the number of viewings, as the Consejo de la Cultura will pay producers a monthly rate depending on the number of plays.

In addition to the VOD and the live services, OndaMedia also includes a beta platform for Chileans to upload their own short videos about cultural and social aspects of the country. For now, users will submit their videos and the council will decide which ones meet the requirements to be uploaded.
