The international arm of 20th Century Fox is co-producing ten feature-length Chinese-language films with Internet giant Tencent for online distribution in China.

“Providing opportunities to young talents is about cultivating the future backbone of the industry,” said Edward Cheng, VP of Tencent and CEO of Tencent Pictures.

The multi-genre films include suspense, thriller, action, fantasy, romance and comedy titles, and all are adaptations of online comic and anime titles native to Tencent’s digital publishing platforms. Chinese director Zhao Tianyu, Japanese producer Takashige Ichise, and director Yao Tingting will act as executive producers.

The venture’s partners Fox International Productions, Sina Entertainment and iQIYI have been joined by Xinpianchang, Bole Pictures and Good Fellow Pictures who will provide marketing and promotion support.

Seven projects have completed production, two are currently in production and one is in pre-production. All ten are scheduled to stream on over-the-top (OTT) platform iQIYI in the second half of 2017.
“Fox International Productions is very honoured to be part of this programme and to provide support with talent resources and international experience,” said Tomas Jegeus, president of Fox International Productions (FIP).

“We believe it’s just the beginning of even more collaborations with all partners to further explore new models for online content creation and better serve today’s young audiences in China and around the world.”

FIP has now produced and released over 50 local films in 11 countries since its launch in 2008, including The Wailing in Korea, as well as Hot Summer Days, The Swordsman and Bride Wars in Greater China.
