Indian video streaming platform Dekkho is to be featured on Amazon Fire TV stick, with an app allowing viewers free access to its library of movies and videos.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 25 May 2017The over-the-top (OTT) content provider, which launched earlier this year, delivers content around the globe in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and selected foreign languages.

Founded by Tanay Desai and Vinay Pillai, Dekkho raised US$1.2 million in seed funding from seven undisclosed marquee angel investors in December 2016. “In a bid to expand our content outreach to smart TVs and similar large-screen offerings, this strategic partnership with Amazon Fire TV Stick will help us increase exposure for content creators on our platform,” Desai remarked.

The Amazon Fire TV stick, priced in India at INR3,999, allows customers to stream OTT content directly into any HDTV set by just plugging it in to the HDMI slot. It also enables the replication of an online video library on television via a Wi-Fi connection.

Amazon introduced India to the Fire TV media player in April pre-loaded with other digital streaming apps from Netflix, Hotstar, Voot and Eros Now as well as its own Amazon Prime Video service. Other services, such as Spuul, have also been added.

India is the fifth market in which the Fire TV stick has been launched, after the US, UK, Germany and Japan.
