Building on the international success of The Young Pope, HBO and SKY are preparing a follow-up, The New Pope, which will be shown via Mediapro, but not Canal+.

the young pope 18 may 2017The filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino is already working on the script of the new series, which will be related to The Young Pope but not as a regular second season.

Produced by Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani, The New Pope will once again count on Spain’s Mediapro and Wildside, as it did for the original series. FremantleMedia International, which owns a controlling stake in Wildside, will manage the international distribution rights.

Starring Jude Law, The Young Pope premiered last October on Sky Atlantic in Italy, the UK, Germany, Ireland and Austria, and in France on Canal+. It also available on HBO’s streaming service in Spain and the Nordics.

At the beginning of the year, FOX Networks Group announced the exclusive broadcasting rights for the series across Latin America.
