Spanish satellite operator Hispasat has reached an agreement with Telefónica’s broadcasting solutions unit, TSA, to distribute AMC Networks International channels in Spain and Portugal.

Under the term of the deal, the full details of which will be unveiled during NAB 2017 in Las Vegas, Hispasat will distribute AMC Networks International Iberia’s 14 pay-TV channels through to 2020. Starting in September, the channels will be using the EMEA coverage of the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite.

In addition to the distribution agreement, Hispasat will be also showcasing at NAB the latest developments of its Ultra HD, free-to-air channel Hispasat 4K, which is available in Europe via the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite and across North and Central America via the Amazonas 2 satellite.

The operator has recently incorporated into the channel’s line-up several short films selected from the finalists and winners of the Hispasat 4K International Short Film Festival, an event that is preparing its third edition.

Hispasat has also announced that it is preparing to launch the Amazonas 5 satellite in the coming months to increase its direct-to-home (DTH) television capacity, enabling 500 new channels to be broadcast and consolidating the company’s footprint in Latin America.
