Broadcast technology and services provider Ericsson is to unveil new broadcasting solutions it says will streamline control of all processing elements using a micro-services architecture, cutting time to market and offering increased operator flexibility.
In addition, the MediaFirst Management Controller and version 8.1 of the MediaFirst Encoding Live product are claimed to be able to optimise OPEX costs and enable transition towards what Ericsson calls a holistic, agile software architecture. Moreover Ericsson believes that they will allow operators to capitalise on consumer demand for new services in areas such as Ultra HD, virtual and augmented reality, along with new revenue-generating opportunities like dynamic ad insertion.
“We are making it easier to monetise services and drive down processing delivery costs throughout the entire content lifecycle,” asserted Elisabetta Romano, vice president and head of media solutions at Ericsson. “Management Controller and Encoding Live 8.1 are pivotal ... With these launches, Ericsson simplifies operations for content owners, broadcasters and service providers by enabling the move to complete virtualization across the media processing delivery chain.”
