In a further coming together of the worlds of TV and telecoms in the Middle East region, UAE-based pay-TV operator MBC has inked an IPTV channel carriage deal with regional comms giant Etisalat.

MBC Etisalat 168 April 2017Under the terms of the deal, Etisalat subsidiary E-Vision has been given exclusive rights to distribute MBC Group channels, making it the main point of contact for any sub-licensing of rights for the TV station’s channels in the UAE. Etisalat’s eLife IPTV customers will be able to extend their access to some of the most popular TV programmes in the region, on-the-go via Etisalat eLife ON companion application.

ELife will also be offering two additional MBC channels, premium English language channel MBC+ VARIETY and premium Arabic drama channel MBC+ DRAMA. These will be available through Etisalat’s large-screen IPTV offer and via the eLife ON companion app whereby customers will access all of MBC’s HD bouquet of channels. Additionally, eLife customers will gain access to an exclusive channel MBC+ ELIFE, and will be able to gain access to content from SHAHID, MBC’s video-on-demand (VOD) service in the MENA region.

E-Vision now holds exclusive IPTV carriage rights to all MBC HD channels including: MBC1, MBC2, MBC3, MBC4, MBC DRAMA, MBC MAX, MBC ACTION. ELife customers will also have exclusive access to MBC+ channels such as, MBC+ DRAMA and MBC+ VARIETY.

Commenting on the partnership, Fadel Zahreddine, group director of brand management, MBC Group, said: “This is another milestone in the strategy that MBC Group has set out to partner with Telecommunication operators to bring a complete value offering to consumers.
