Argentina’s cinema institute has extended the video-on-demand (VOD) distribution platform Odeon to include a transactional option.

cine ar playIn fact, the Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) has launched a single distribution brand, CINE.AR, with four different platforms, rebranding the free VOD service Odeon as part of it.

The digital, linear network (INCAA TV) has been renamed as CINE.AR TV and will continue to air national productions 24/7 without advertising.

Odeon is already operating CINE.AR Play as a free VOD service with films and series produced in Argentina. The platform is available for mobile screens and some smart TV models, and nears half a million registered users.

The pay-per-view VOD premieres will be available through CINE.AR Estrenos, a new feature of the Odeon service that will deliver the latest Argentinean productions through a transactional VOD model. Through this option, INCAA and the public telco Arsat continue looking into the opportunities of launching a subscription VOD service that could be available across the Latin American region.

The fourth leg of the project has been named CINE.AR Sala, a network of theatres across Argentina aiming to become a new space for national producers to show their work.

“CINE.AR will add value to every INCAA screen, moving along with technological convergence,” said Alejandro Cacetta, president, INCAA. “We are finally able to unify our platforms, thinking about the final viewer.”
