The BBC has revealed that its new Player white-label platform, its first TV everywhere solution for BBC Worldwide’s APAC audience, was built using the Skylark content management system from broadcast and video-on-demand (VOD) specialist Ostmodern.

The new authenticated multi-genre SVOD service, now available to StarHub and TM Net subscribers in Singapore and Malaysia respectively, offers a range of curated content from six BBC global brands: BBC Earth, BBC Lifestyle, BBC First, CBeebies, BBC World News, and BBC Brit. The launch of BBC Player marks the first time this content is available in Asia.

In addition to providing the framework for rolling out on-demand access to BBC content, the Skylark platform supports an editorial-led approach to content recommendations and includes workflow management methods. Ostmodern says that this gives channel partners the tools to deliver a highly personalised experience for their subscribers to drive content discovery, escaping the problem found with other VOD services where viewers only ever explore a small part of the overall library.

“We are delighted to be working with BBC Worldwide on this new service. It demonstrates the power of Skylark as an integration framework, while also showcasing the powerful content curation and editorial workflow tools in the CMS,” said Ostmodern CEO Tom Williams.
