Telefónica’s Movistar has launched Studio+ in Chile, making the country the first stop for Vivendi’s mobile subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service in Spanish-speaking Latin America.

The move, announced during MWC 2017 in Barcelona, follows the platform’s worldwide premiere in Brazil last October, shortly after which Telefónica announced that Movistar would gradually add the service to its multiple LATAM operations.

Offering around 60 mobile-only series produced by Vivendi exclusively for the SVOD platform, available for downloading or via streaming, it has also added other 200 titles to complete its portfolio, all of them developed for Vivendi’s Watchever.

“Studio+ is designed to meet the demand of mobile content, designed to be watched on smartphones during short breaks during the day,” said Roberto Muñoz, general manager, Movistar Chile. “It’s the first app in the world to offer such content. The growing demand for video, along with the quality and speed of our networks, will ensure we deliver a first-class product.”

According to Movistar’s recently published Big Data Report, 52% of Chile’s mobile data traffic in 2016 was for content streaming, including both music and videos, seven points higher than the previous year.
