Consolidation of customer footprints with major operators and new wins in developing markets and US cable have all enabled the Kudelski Group to restore its previous momentum in 2016.

nagraFor the year, the parent of the NAGRA range of content protection solutions increased its consolidated revenues and other operating income by 12.3% to CHF1.067.4 billion, or 20.4% annual growth. Net income from continuing operations grew 51.7% year-on-year to CHF74.8 million.

The driving force for the improvement was the integrated Digital TV (iDTV) division whose segment revenues increased by 10.5% in 2016, reaching CHF730.2 million, and segment operating income increased by 19.3% to CHF99.4 million.

Highlights of the year included Altice, the fourth largest US cable operator, selecting NAGRA’s content protection solution and multiscreen platform to launch its new 4K/Ultra HD cable service, in an all-screen connected home environment, and Groupe Canal+ signing a multi-year framework agreement to secure its content for subsidiaries in France, Poland, Caribbean, Africa, Vietnam, Madagascar and Mauritius through the deployment of the NAGRA Insight analytics solution. Rollout of the NAGRA COMMAND content access solution at DISH was said to be ‘well under way’ with approximately 1.2 million devices delivered since the inception of the project, including 800,000 devices in 2016.

During the 2016 Olympics, NET in Brazil was able to offer its customers 56 different channels of Olympic content, though NAGRA’s integration of 40 channels over IP into the current broadcast channel environment.

The company also regrouped its entire portfolio of user experience solutions as part of the OpenTV Suite. The OpenTV Suite encompasses the operating system, the player, the user interface and the service platform and is designed to allow deeper integration with customers. The Conax subsidiary concluded 11 new customer contracts, encompassing six broadcast operations, two contracts for advanced services and contracts with three operators to deploy its new cloud services platform. These comprise a variety of operators from Europe, Latin America and India. Conax also signed 20 additional contracts with existing customers for advanced services, cloud services and card-less technology.
