Arabsat’s Badr-4 is to offer a Tunisian broadcast platform by the end of the second quarter of 2017, following an agreement between the regional satellite operator and Tunisia’s state broadcaster.

Arabsat ONT February 2017The Office National de la Telediffusion Tunisien (ONT) and Arabsat will present Tunisian and regional broadcasters direct access from Tunis to the satellite’s geographic footprint over the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) and Western Europe.

“This platform is the result of the long-term cooperation between Arabsat and the ONT which had started several years ago. It will enhance our relationship with Tunisia where Arabsat is already present through our satellite control station, as well as the HQ of our strategic partner ASBU,” said Khalid Balkheyour, CEO, Arabsat.

Rohde and Schwartz has been commissioned to install and commission the platform on Arabsat Badr-4, which is located in orbit at 26° East.

“Expanding our cooperation with Arabsat will enable us to meet our customers’ needs and position ONT as a true one stop shop. We believe the 26° East neighbourhood will continue its growth through the addition of exclusive TV channels respecting the traditions of the region,” said ONT CEO Dhaker Baccouch.
