Independent factual content production and distribution company Barcroft Media is launching its Barcroft TV channel on Roku online video streaming devices.

barcroft 15 Feb 2017Barcroft aims to become the leading global provider of factual content by creating, licensing, distributing and publishing news depicting ‘the amazing side of life’ across its constituent core businesses, comprising Barcroft Media and Barcroft Productions. The former is an established editorial content agency that specialises in content creation and distribution, licensing and distributing documentaries and short-form video clips to producers, publishers, broadcasters and digital platforms in over 50 countries. Barcroft Productions creates original linear and digital TV programming for brands and networks such as MTV, TLC, Channel 4 and Discovery.

The agreement is the latest content distribution arrangement struck by Barcroft Media following recent deals with the Sina Weibo social media platform in China; Toronto-based online video platform; and MobiMedia/RealTime Images which will distribute Barcroft content to local African partners including MTN, Vodafone, Huawei and Safaricom.

Barcroft TV’s original short-form content will be available via a dedicated channel on the streaming platform that as of December 2016 boasted over 13 million active account holders in ten countries who streamed over nine billion hours of video and music. The company’s YouTube channel recently surpassed 2.6 million subscribers and exceeded 2.3 billion total video views.

Explaining the rationale for the choice of Roku, Barcroft Media head of partnerships Victoria Catton said: “Barcroft Media is committed to building additional reach in priority markets and getting in front of audiences in new ways so we’re delighted to launch the Barcroft TV channel on Roku streaming devices. Roku is one of the most popular streaming platforms, so it’s a perfect home for the amazing content we create every day.”
