Spaniards’ use of TV and Internet combined is increasing, reveals a report from AIMC, with almost 60% of connected users in Spain regularly watch TV-related content on their devices.

social tvAccording to the 2017 AIMC Q Panel which surveys TV habits in Spain, 40% of people have accesses to the Internet through their main TV screens, twice as many as in 2016. Among them, 73% access through a smart TV, 15% through a hybrid set-top box (STB), and 13% through other devices connected to the TV, such as consoles or computers.

Regardless of the device used (though smartphones are the preferred screen for 63% of survey respondents), 68% of Spaniards use the Internet while watching TV. Among these, a quarter said they focus mainly on TV, while 37% said their attention was on the Internet.

Most (73%) of those who goes online to catch up with TV do it through a computer, with more using a laptop than a desktop, while 27% usually use their smartphones.

Although many different activities are carried out in front of TVs, the main one involving TV and the Internet is commenting about a programme on the social media. A third of survey respondents make public comments about TV programmes at least once a month, mostly through their smartphones.
