La Liga and Mediapro have partnered to air the Copa del Rey semi-finals live on Facebook to over 40 territories worldwide.

la liga mediapro copaMediapro’s free-to-air (FTA) network Gol, which owns the rights, will become Spain’s first TV channel to stream live sports events via the social network.

Through the Facebook La Liga channel, fans will have access to the Atlético de Madrid vs. FC Barcelona and RC Celta vs. Deportivo Alavés matches.

The games will be available live on Facebook across the UK, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, Russia, most of the Middle East and Southeast Asia countries, China and Australia, among other countries. In Spain, matches will be broadcast through DTT and Gol’s Facebook channel.

Through the move, La Liga and Mediapro “will take these games to countries where no TV operator is broadcasting them. It’s an innovative bet which is part of La Liga’s digital development strategy,” said La Liga.

Recently, La Liga signed a deal with Microsoft to feed the former’s 1.6 billion social media followers with digital content.
