Complementing the set of UK broadcasters available on its media streaming device, Google has signed up the My 5 video-on-demand (VOD) service from Channel 5 for Chromecast.

my5 13 Dec 2016The deal will enable Chromecast viewers to stream a range of content from their phones or tablets direct to their TVs. My5 houses all of Channel 5’s most popular catch-up content – from Celebrity Big Brother, The Yorkshire Vet and Gotham, to Lip Sync Battle UK, GPs: Behind Closed Doors and The X-Files. It also includes exclusives and box sets in addition to programmes from across the Channel 5 family – Channel 5, 5STAR, 5USA and Spike.

The development also forms part of a long-term strategy to broaden the reach of Channel 5’s content, making it available across multiple screens and platforms. “Today’s announcement builds on My5’s position as the most widely distributed commercial broadcaster VOD service in the UK,” commented James Tatam, director of digital media & commercial development for Channel 5. “Chromecast is a fantastic device, and by utilising this technology to broaden out My5’s reach and availability we’re giving our viewers even more choice and flexibility when it comes to their favourite content.”

Added Edward Kenney, head of Chromecast partnerships, UK, at Google: “Channel 5 has built a great VOD offering, and with Google Chromecast, viewers can stream everything they love from My5 to the big screen, directly from their phone or tablet. Users will be delighted with the addition of My5 to the broad list of services already available on Chromecast.”
