When it comes to checking mobile screens in front of the TV, Spaniards are divided, with half of them admitting to being distracted by their devices.


estudio mobile iabA report from Spain’s Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) has shed more light on the growing wave of social TV and second-screen activity. According to IAB, a third of Spaniards frequently use their smartphones while watching TV, while 18% use tablets and 47% of viewers still like to keep focus on the bigger screen.

55% of smartphone-checkers use their devices to send short messages or chat, 45% look at social networks and 41% check their email while watching TV. Among tablet users, 38% check email, 35% play games and 33% look at social media.

The report, which estimates that there is a mobile population of 21.5 million users between 16-65 years old in Spain, also found that 90% of Spaniards user their smartphones during the purchasing process, most of them to look for information and compare prices. But over 40% are already buying all kind of products – particularly clothing, trips and electronics – through mobile platforms.
