When it comes to checking mobile screens in front of the TV, Spaniards are divided, with half of them admitting to being distracted by their devices.
A report from Spain’s Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) has shed more light on the growing wave of social TV and second-screen activity. According to IAB, a third of Spaniards frequently use their smartphones while watching TV, while 18% use tablets and 47% of viewers still like to keep focus on the bigger screen.
55% of smartphone-checkers use their devices to send short messages or chat, 45% look at social networks and 41% check their email while watching TV. Among tablet users, 38% check email, 35% play games and 33% look at social media.
The report, which estimates that there is a mobile population of 21.5 million users between 16-65 years old in Spain, also found that 90% of Spaniards user their smartphones during the purchasing process, most of them to look for information and compare prices. But over 40% are already buying all kind of products – particularly clothing, trips and electronics – through mobile platforms.
