Telefónica’s Movistar Play has finally launched in Nicaragua, almost completing the telco’s over-the-top (OTT) expansion schedule for 2016.

Although no official announcement has been made, the Movistar Play app is now available at Google Play and Apple Store for Android and iOS devices, with Nicaraguan users starting to report on the long awaited launch.

The platform is also available online with an initial video-on-demand (VOD) catalogue of 3,000 series, movies and documentaries.

According to the service’s description, Movistar Play Nicaragua allows five registered devices and two simultaneous streams per subscription. The platform is available for any Movistar customer, including pre-paid mobile subscribers.

Now only Ecuador is missing from Telefónica’s Latin American plans for Movistar Play. Already available in Brazil, Chile and Argentina, the OTT platform has launched this year in Uruguay, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Colombia and Peru.

Movistar Play’s premiere in Ecuador is expected to take place before the end of the year. In fact, the Ecuadorian Web domain is already registered and the company is working on making the service available as soon as possible.
