Brazilian broadcaster Globo has entered into a partnership with leading social media platform Snapchat to offer behind-the-scenes moments of the 2016 Rio Olympics.

globo snapchat 2 AUgust 2016The partnership marks the first time that Globo will offer exclusive content of its sports coverage on a social media. The initiative encompasses both Globo free-to-air channel and SporTV, the multichannel sports brand operated by Globosat, Grupo Globo´s pay-TV programmer company.

The coverage will complement that which will be broadcast on TV and Snapchat will include the Games’ special content from the home broadcast rights holder for the Rio 2016 Olympics via its Live Stories product. The Live Stories will be a curated collection of photo and video Snaps submitted by Snapchatters at the events and also small excerpts from Globo´s broadcasts.

Live Stories will include Snaps from the major competitions captured by fans, Globo and SporTV talents, as well as the behind-the-scenes moments from competitions and around the venues. Together these videos allow the audience to experience the excitement of the world’s largest sporting event as if they were there. By partnering with Globo, Snapchat will have access to unique content from the Globo team.

The expectation is that the combination of Globo’s quality in content with the dynamism and growing popularity of Snapchat in Brazil will increase Brazilian users’ engagement to the event. “We are thrilled to establish this partnership with Snapchat,” remarked Erick Brêtas, director of digital media at Globo. “And the moment couldn’t be more appropriate: a huge event in Rio de Janeiro is guarantee of breath-taking images of the games. The partnership reinforces the movement Globo has been making to get closer to its audience, wherever and however they feel like. We will be side by side with Brazilian Snapchatters, recording live everything that is going on in the Olympic Games.”

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Globo to allow our community to experience the biggest global sporting event like they never have before”, added Ben Schwerin, director of partnerships at Snapchat.
