Argentinean fibre operator Cablevisión Fibertel is to launch a new IPTV platform with over-the-top (OTT) access for mobile and connected devices.

cablevision logoPublicising the launch through an advertising campaign that has been running for a month, Cablevisión has now revealed that the new platform will be named Flow.

Through an IPTV subscription, viewers will have online access to live and video-on-demand (VOD) content to watch on-the-go, anytime and anywhere. The strategy builds on Fibertel’s two million-plus broadband subscribers and its leading position in the pay-TV market.

The company is owned by Grupo Clarín, which is subscribed to by 40% of Argentina’s 8.5 million pay-TV households.

Although cord-cutting is not a big issue in Argentina, where subs are loyal to traditional pay-TV, the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service Netflix is gradually taking over the market, and currently has nearly two million subs.

As announced in May, Cablevisión’s upcoming platform will be launched in October/November 2016. The service will enable users to watch many of the channels live on mobile devices, and to access a VOD catalogue of series and films as well as Netflix through a single platform.
